On Friday, a policeman was killed and another injured when unidentified armed men opened fire on a Forest Department police team in Bhimber district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), according to police sources.
Attack Details
The Forest Department team had arrived in the area following reports of an attempted encroachment on government-owned forest land. As the officials reached the site, the suspects allegedly opened fire before fleeing the scene. Head Constable Muhammad Farman lost his life in the attack, while another police officer sustained injuries.
Police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
AJK Government Action
In a separate development, the AJK government has placed the leadership and approximately 150 activists of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) on the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act. A notification issued by the AJK Home Department confirmed that several key JAAC leaders have been included in the list.
Officials stated that individuals placed on the Fourth Schedule will remain under strict surveillance, with restrictions on their movement and participation in public gatherings. Their financial activities will also be monitored, and they are required to regularly report to the relevant police stations.
