Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held separate telephone conversations on Sunday with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The discussions focused on the rapidly evolving regional situation following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with Dar reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to diplomacy and regional peace.
Conversation with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas
During his conversation with Kaja Kallas, the two leaders exchanged views on recent developments in the Middle East and assessed efforts aimed at preserving regional stability. Kallas appreciated Pakistan’s sincere diplomatic initiatives that culminated in the signing of the Islamabad MoU, describing the agreement as an important step towards de-escalation. However, she expressed serious concern over recent ceasefire violations and underscored the importance of keeping channels of communication open among all parties to prevent further escalation.
Dar briefed the EU foreign policy chief on Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement to develop a comprehensive framework for lasting peace and stability in the Middle East. He stressed that all parties must fully adhere to the ceasefire agreement and exercise maximum restraint to consolidate the gains achieved through dialogue. Both sides agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on regional developments.
Separate Call with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister
In a separate telephone call, Dar spoke with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, who congratulated Pakistan on the successful signing of the Islamabad MoU and commended Islamabad’s constructive role in facilitating understanding among the concerned parties. Al Zayani expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for durable peace and stability across the region.
He also conveyed his intention to visit Pakistan in the near future to personally thank the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) for their efforts in helping secure the ceasefire. Dar thanked the Bahraini foreign minister for his warm sentiments and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to promoting dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution. He reiterated that Pakistan would continue working with regional and international partners to advance sustainable peace, stability and cooperation in the Middle East and beyond.
