Drone and Artillery Strikes Kill Civilians in Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Drones and artillery fire killed civilians on both sides of the Russia-Ukraine border on Saturday, according to local officials. In Russia's Bryansk region, a Ukrainian drone strike killed two people in their car in a village near the border, acting Governor Yegor Kovalchuk reported on Telegram.

Russian Air Defenses Intercept Drones

Russia's Defense Ministry, as quoted by Russian news agencies, said 124 Ukrainian drones had been downed over Russian regions between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. local time. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin issued a series of statements about Ukrainian drones heading for the capital being intercepted. An informal tally by Russian news agencies placed the number of intercepted drones over Moscow at 24 during the day.

Ukrainian Regions Under Fire

In Ukraine, the governor of the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk Region, Oleksandr Ganzha, reported that a combined total of more than 40 drone strikes and artillery fire killed one person and injured another near Nikopol. The town, located on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River from the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, is a frequent target of Russian forces.

Donetsk Casualties

The Moscow-appointed head of Russian-held areas in Ukraine's Donetsk region, Denis Pushilin, stated on Telegram that two people were killed in Ukrainian drone strikes in the major towns of Horlivka and Makiivka. The ongoing conflict continues to inflict civilian casualties on both sides, with no immediate end in sight.
