Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazal) has expressed serious concern over the worsening law and order situation in Balochistan, calling on the country’s political leadership to develop a unified strategy to address growing security challenges. In a statement, JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri emphasized that protecting the lives and property of citizens is a fundamental responsibility of the state, adding that the continuing wave of insecurity and the absence of effective measures at the state level are a matter of grave concern.
Warning of Potential Tragedy
Ghauri warned that what he described as the rulers’ negligence, complacency, and incompetence could lead to a major tragedy if urgent corrective steps are not taken. He further claimed that the country’s “hybrid system” was gradually moving toward its logical conclusion. Criticizing the government, Ghauri said administrations formed through what he termed “rigged elections” lack the capacity to provide peace and security to the people.
Root Causes of Unrest
The JUI-F spokesperson said the prevailing unrest in Balochistan is the result of decades of deprivation, arguing that public grievances and the unequal distribution of resources are among the root causes of the province’s security challenges. He added that the JUI-F leadership had repeatedly raised concerns over the deteriorating security situation on the floor of Parliament, but alleged that its warnings had gone unheeded.
Call for National Consensus
Calling for a broader national response, Ghauri urged the country’s political leadership to set aside differences and formulate a consensus-based strategy to address the security situation in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir, saying a coordinated national approach is the need of the hour.
