Pakistan is set to host the 9th Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women later this month, an event that will gather representatives from all 57 member states, state media reported on Wednesday. The two-day conference is scheduled for July 12-13 in Islamabad.
Deputy Prime Minister Reviews Preparations
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a committee meeting on Wednesday to oversee the final preparations for the conference. According to Radio Pakistan, the committee discussed measures to ensure the seamless conduct and successful hosting of the event, which aims to strengthen cooperation on women's empowerment, inclusion, and sustainable development.
The meeting reviewed the draft program, conference agenda, protocol, security, and logistical arrangements. Preparations related to media and communication strategy, inter-ministerial coordination, and other organizational matters were also assessed.
OIC Conference Background and Themes
The OIC Ministerial Conference on Women is held approximately every three to four years. It brings together ministers from OIC member states to review progress on women's rights, share national policies, and adopt new frameworks. Past conferences have focused on themes such as women's economic empowerment, combating gender-based violence, and improving access to education and healthcare.
Dar directed Pakistani stakeholders to maintain close coordination and ensure the timely completion of remaining arrangements, the report concluded.
