The governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, has accused Ukraine of using Storm Shadow missiles in an attack on the port city in Russian-occupied Crimea. In a Telegram post early on Wednesday, Razvozhayev stated that air defense units intercepted more than 20 Ukrainian drones, with the attack also involving Storm Shadow missiles. Preliminary reports indicate no injuries, but several buildings sustained damage, including a regional office of the central bank and an eight-story apartment block.
Storm Shadow Missiles in the Conflict
Storm Shadow missiles are produced by a Franco-British consortium. Russia, which annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, has previously summoned the British and French ambassadors to protest Ukraine's use of these weapons. Ukraine has not commented on the latest attacks. On Monday, Ukraine's military claimed it used Storm Shadow missiles to destroy a Russian command-and-control and communications post in the eastern Luhansk region.
Other Attacks and Casualties
In a separate incident, two people were wounded in the southern Russian port city of Taganrog, east of the border with Ukraine, after Russia intercepted a missile early on Wednesday, according to Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambulova on Telegram. Overall, Russia reported downing 140 drones overnight, as cited by Interfax news agency from the defense ministry.
Russian strikes on Ukraine's southern city of Zaporizhzhia have wounded 15 people in the past 24 hours, and six more people were wounded in the Dnipropetrovsk region, local authorities said on Telegram. Ukraine's air force reported that Russia launched 163 drones at the country since 6 p.m. local time (1500 GMT) on Tuesday. Reuters could not independently verify reports of military activity.
