Trump Issues Warning After US Strikes on Iran
US President Donald Trump warned Wednesday that American strikes on Iran will escalate significantly if Tehran persists in targeting vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, "This is in retribution for yesterday's bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse." The message accompanied video footage of US strikes on Iranian positions.
US Central Command Announces New Strikes
Shortly before Trump's remarks, the US military's Central Command announced on X that American forces had initiated a fresh round of strikes against Iran. The stated objective is to degrade Tehran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global oil shipments.
Iran Reports Explosions and Vows Retaliation
Iranian media reported a series of explosions across southern Iran following the US strikes, which they said targeted multiple locations. Mohsen Rezaei, a senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, posted on X that the "aggressor enemy and its accomplices" would face "severe punishment." This escalation marks a significant uptick in tensions between the two nations over maritime security in the region.
