Xi Jinping hosts Belarusian President Lukashenko at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse
Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Beijing on Monday, according to Chinese state media. The meeting took place at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, as reported by state broadcaster CCTV, which did not immediately provide further details about the discussions.
Lukashenko’s role in Ukraine conflict and Belarus’s strategic position
Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994, allowed Russia to launch its 2022 invasion of Ukraine from Belarusian territory. However, he has denied any plans for direct Belarusian involvement in the war. Belarus shares borders with NATO member states and hosts Russia’s latest nuclear-capable missile system, the Oreshnik.
China has positioned itself as a neutral party in the conflict, though Kyiv and its allies have accused Beijing of providing covert support to Moscow. The meeting between Xi and Lukashenko underscores the continuing alignment between China and Belarus, a key Russian ally.
Previous visit and bilateral ties
Lukashenko’s last visit to China was in September 2025, when he attended a grand military parade in Beijing and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin. The two nations have strengthened economic and political ties in recent years, with Belarus joining China’s Belt and Road Initiative and deepening cooperation in trade and infrastructure.
