Pakistan Commits to Environmental Protection on World Environment Day

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to placing environmental protection at the forefront of national policymaking, emphasizing that every citizen has a constitutional right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. In his message on World Environment Day, Dar said Pakistan is taking practical steps to address environmental challenges by promoting climate-resilient housing, accelerating the shift towards clean energy and encouraging sustainable and environmentally responsible construction practices.

He said Pakistan joined the global community in observing World Environment Day and renewed its commitment to protecting the planet while strengthening collective efforts to tackle climate change. The deputy prime minister noted that Pakistan remains one of the countries most affected by climate change, yet continues to show resilience in the face of recurring floods, rapid glacial melt, prolonged droughts, extreme heatwaves, and increasing pressure on water resources.

He stressed that stronger international cooperation is essential to address the interconnected issues of climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation. He said these efforts should be guided by the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities. Dar said the growing scale of climate-related challenges highlights the need for coordinated global action and greater collaboration among nations.
