President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering commitment to eliminating drug abuse and illicit trafficking, calling for a united national effort to tackle the growing challenge.
Messages on International Day
In separate messages on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed on June 26, both leaders stressed the importance of coordinated measures to prevent drug abuse and dismantle narcotics networks.
President Asif Ali Zardari underscored the need to strengthen prevention, education, public awareness and rehabilitation initiatives, saying a comprehensive approach was essential to protect individuals and communities from the harmful effects of drug addiction.
Government's Resolve
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan remained steadfast in addressing all threats associated with narcotic drugs and reaffirmed the government's resolve to combat drug trafficking. He said the government was continuing to strengthen national capacities, improve institutional coordination and expand cooperation with international partners to eliminate drug trafficking and curb the spread of illicit drugs.
Call for Collaboration
The two leaders reiterated that sustained collaboration among government institutions, civil society and international stakeholders was vital to building a drug-free and healthier society.
