On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the divisional administration has prepared a comprehensive action plan to deal with any possible flood situation during the monsoon season. A high-level meeting, chaired by Commissioner Faisalabad Musarrat Jabeen, was held in which the Deputy Commissioners of all four districts briefed the participants on the flood control plan, measures to prevent urban flooding, rescue and health arrangements, the condition of protective embankments and other precautionary measures.
Multi-Departmental Coordination for Flood Preparedness
The meeting was attended by officers from the Revenue Department, Irrigation Department, Livestock Department, Civil Defence, Rescue 1122, Municipal Corporation, and other relevant departments. Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen said that CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed all departments to complete monsoon preparedness in a comprehensive manner. She instructed all concerned departments to remain fully prepared by upgrading communication systems and ensuring the availability of the latest equipment.
Early Warning Systems and Rapid Response
She directed all four districts to keep their early warning and alert systems fully operational at all times and said that, learning from the experience of previous floods, all administrative and protective measures, including those of Rescue 1122, should remain on high alert. The Commissioner also directed the authorities to ensure the rapid drainage of rainwater in case of urban flooding, accelerate the desilting campaign, and keep machinery deployed in low-lying areas.
Mock Exercises and Continuous Monitoring
She said that although mock exercises have been completed in all four districts according to schedule, preparations should continue to be closely monitored and no gap, however minor, should remain. She further directed that every concerned department must perform its responsibilities effectively in accordance with the contingency plan.
