Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has stated that Sindh is rapidly progressing in line with the vision of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He emphasized that press freedom in the province remains intact, asserting that no other province in the country enjoys similar freedom of expression. However, he alleged that the provincial government often becomes the target of that same freedom.
National Context and Resource Constraints
Memon highlighted that Pakistan is facing extraordinary circumstances and that all provinces have limited resources. Despite these challenges, they have contributed by prioritizing national development. "We have thought more about the country; development can come later," he remarked, underscoring the government's commitment to national interests over provincial progress.
AI-Based Media Monitoring Initiative
The senior minister announced that the provincial government has introduced AI-based media monitoring to track content across print, electronic, and social media platforms. This move aims to enhance the government's ability to analyze media coverage and public sentiment effectively.
Pioneering Institutions for Journalists
Sharjeel Memon noted that Sindh is the first province to establish a Journalists Protection Wing and the Sindh Information Commission. These institutions are designed to safeguard journalists' rights and ensure transparency in information dissemination. He reiterated that the government remains committed to upholding freedom of expression while addressing challenges posed by media criticism.
