Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday held a meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss the country's political landscape and matters of mutual interest. The meeting took place at Fazlur Rehman's residence, where former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accompanied the PPP chairman. The JUI-F delegation included Engineer Ziaur Rehman and Maulana Asjad Mahmood.
Review of Political Situation
According to sources, both leaders reviewed the prevailing political situation and exchanged views on a range of issues concerning national politics. The meeting comes shortly after the PPP and JUI-F announced an electoral alliance for the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for July 27.
Electoral Alliance Details
The alliance was unveiled during a joint press conference in Islamabad, where leaders from both parties said the partnership aims to strengthen their position in the AJK polls. PPP leader Chaudhry Yasin described the agreement as the start of formal political cooperation in Azad Kashmir, expressing confidence that it would enhance the parties' electoral prospects. He also reaffirmed the PPP's commitment to highlighting the Kashmir issue at national and international forums.
Under the agreement, candidates contesting from LA-14 and LA-23 will be fielded jointly by the PPP and JUI-F. JUI-F Azad Kashmir chief Maulana Saeed Yousaf termed the alliance a historic step, saying it represents the first formal electoral partnership between the two parties in the region.
