An application has been submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking details of the assets and election records of Punjab Assembly member Saqib Chadhar. The application was filed by advocate Asif Mahmood, who has requested certified copies of the lawmaker’s nomination papers and asset declarations submitted to election authorities.
Request for Electoral Records
According to the plea, access to the electoral record is required to examine matters related to the continuation of Chadhar’s membership in the provincial assembly. The applicant noted that a separate petition seeking the lawmaker’s disqualification has already been submitted to the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly.
Allegations and Public Interest
The application alleges that concerns have been raised regarding the provision of expensive vehicles, valuable gifts, and property to a woman, arguing that scrutiny of the legislator’s financial position and sources of income is a matter of public interest. It further states that elected representatives are legally bound to disclose their assets and financial interests.
Scope of Requested Records
The applicant seeks records of assets declared by Saqib Chadhar, his spouse, and dependent family members, including both current and previous holdings. The applicant has requested the ECP to provide the relevant documents to facilitate examination of the lawmaker’s financial disclosures and asset declarations.
