Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police faced an armed assault during a recovery operation within the Koral police station limits, resulting in the death of one dacoit and injury to another, caused by firing from their own accomplices. An official disclosed on Sunday that the incident unfolded when a police team was escorting an arrested suspect to recover weapons and stolen valuables linked to robbery incidents.
Details of the Incident
According to police sources, the arrested suspects, identified as Ahmed Shehzad and Muneeb-ur-Rehman, were implicated in a murder during a robbery case in Ghouri Town. They were being taken to various locations based on their identification for the recovery of weapons and looted items. The official stated that accomplices of the arrested suspects, who had pre-emptively positioned themselves, suddenly unleashed indiscriminate fire on the police party in an attempt to free them.
Exchange of Fire
The attackers utilized automatic weapons; however, police personnel remained unharmed due to bulletproof jackets and other protective measures. During the exchange of fire, accused Ahmed Shehzad was fatally struck by bullets fired by his own accomplices, while Muneeb-ur-Rehman sustained injuries. The injured accused was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Investigation and Search Operation
Police reported that preliminary investigations indicate the accused were involved in robberies, street crimes, and other serious offenses across various areas of the federal capital. In response, a search operation and snap checking have been initiated in different areas to apprehend the fleeing accomplices. According to police sources, the deceased and injured accused were members of an active dacoit gang that has been operating in Islamabad and its adjoining areas for an extended period.
