Imran Khan Receives Medical Treatment for Eye Ailment at Islamabad Hospital
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has officially confirmed that incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan underwent a medical procedure for an eye condition at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. The procedure took place on Saturday night, January 24, following recommendations from ophthalmologists who examined him at Rawalpindi's Adiala jail.
Details of the Medical Procedure and Health Status
In a statement to a TV channel, Tarar elaborated that Imran Khan was transported to PIMS for a 20-minute medical intervention after specialists deemed it necessary. "Ophthalmologists examined him in Adiala jail, after which they recommended that it was necessary to take him to PIMS for a small medical procedure. Last Saturday night, he was taken to PIMS on the recommendation of these eye specialists," Tarar stated.
At the hospital, Imran Khan's eyes were further assessed, and the procedure was conducted with his written consent. Tarar emphasized that during the treatment, Imran's vitals remained stable, and he was in good health. "He's absolutely healthy," the minister asserted, adding that the former prime minister was returned to Adiala jail with important medical instructions.
Response to Health Concerns and PTI's Claims
Addressing concerns raised about Imran Khan's health, Tarar reiterated that the PTI founder is "absolutely fine" and was in perfect condition during the procedure. He stressed that the decision to move Imran to PIMS was based solely on medical experts' opinions, in compliance with jail regulations that ensure all prisoners have access to necessary healthcare.
This confirmation comes after the PTI reported on Tuesday that Imran Khan had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, a condition that could lead to permanent vision damage if not treated promptly. The party cited credible medical reports and highlighted the urgency of proper treatment.
Security and Legal Developments
A senior doctor at PIMS described the scene on Saturday night, noting that Imran Khan arrived under strict security measures. The hospital's operation theatres and anesthesia room were cordoned off, and there was extraordinary movement in preparation for his arrival. The procedure, though brief, required significant logistical coordination.
In related legal actions, PTI MNAs filed a fresh petition before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday, seeking permission to meet Imran Khan. This move underscores ongoing political tensions and concerns over his welfare while in custody.
Tarar concluded by reaffirming that the government is adhering to all legal and medical protocols, ensuring that Imran Khan receives appropriate care as per standard prison rules.
