NAB Distributes Rs1.2 Billion to Victims of Fraudulent Housing Schemes, Providing Major Relief

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has successfully disbursed a substantial amount of Rs1.2 billion among victims of private housing schemes, offering significant relief to those affected by fraudulent practices. According to a NAB spokesperson, this move marks a crucial step in addressing long-standing grievances and ensuring justice for the victims.

Resolution of a Two-Decade-Old Dispute

NAB Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt highlighted that the victims had been subjected to financial exploitation through fake documents and bogus allotments. He emphasized that a dispute which had been pending since 2006 has finally been resolved, thanks to NAB's persistent and dedicated efforts over the years. The chairman urged the public to exercise caution and invest their hard-earned money only in government-approved housing schemes to avoid similar pitfalls in the future.

Phased Distribution and Enhanced Compensation

In the initial phase of the disbursement, Rs341 million was distributed among 476 affectees through pay orders and online transfers. Notably, victims received up to 2.5 times more than their original investment, reflecting NAB's commitment to providing fair compensation. Overall, approximately 2,200 affectees are set to receive a combined total of Rs1.209 billion, ensuring widespread relief across the affected community.

Ongoing Verification and Future Commitments

Meanwhile, NAB has initiated a verification process for new claimants, reiterating its unwavering commitment to ensure that no affectee is deprived of their rightful dues. The bureau stated that the case was resolved after a rigorous 20-year struggle, which involved identifying and recovering hidden assets from the culprits responsible for the fraud.

Recognition of Efforts

In recognition of this significant achievement, the NAB chairman announced appreciation shields and Umrah packages for the officials involved in the case. This gesture aims to acknowledge their hard work and dedication in bringing justice to the victims and upholding accountability in the housing sector.
