The meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), originally scheduled for Tuesday under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, has been postponed for the fourth time and rescheduled for Wednesday, June 10. According to a meeting notice issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday night, the NEC meeting will now be held at 1130 hours in the Prime Minister's House in Islamabad, with the Prime Minister presiding.
Earlier, the NEC meeting was first scheduled for May 22 but was postponed and rescheduled for June 3. It was then postponed again and rescheduled for June 8. On June 7, just one day before the June 8 meeting, the agenda was issued, but within hours the meeting was postponed and rescheduled for June 9. Now, it has been postponed once more and rescheduled for June 10.
Composition and Agenda of NEC
The NEC is headed by the Prime Minister and includes the four chief ministers and four federal ministers. The forum will review the national investment plan for 2025-26 and finalize the national investment plan for 2026-27. It will also examine the provisional GDP growth figures for the outgoing fiscal year 2025-26 and finalize the figures for the previous fiscal year 2024-25.
Additionally, the NEC will review the performance reports of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for the ongoing fiscal year 2025-26.
Development Outlay and GDP Target
The Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) last week recommended the highest ever national development outlay of Rs4.715 trillion and a GDP growth target of 4 percent for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27, pending approval by the NEC.
