The Punjab Assembly will convene at 2pm on Monday with a packed legislative agenda, marking what officials describe as Pakistan's first fully paperless parliamentary session. According to the agenda issued for the sitting, members of the provincial assembly will receive all assembly business electronically through tablet devices recently installed at their desks as part of the Assembly Secretariat's digital transformation initiative. To facilitate the transition, a special training session for lawmakers has been scheduled two hours before the commencement of the proceedings.
Key Legislative Business
During the session, the government will respond to questions relating to the Revenue Department and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and disaster management affairs. Call attention notices and adjournment motions submitted by lawmakers will also be taken up for discussion. The government is expected to lay before the House the Punjab Food Safety Amendment Ordinance and the Punjab Judicial Academy Amendment Ordinance for consideration. In addition, ten new bills are set to be introduced in the assembly, reflecting the government's legislative priorities ahead of the upcoming budget session.
Matters of Public Importance
Members from both treasury and opposition benches are also expected to raise a number of matters of public importance during the proceedings. The sitting comes as the Punjab Assembly moves towards a modern, technology-driven legislative process.
Digital Transformation Milestone
The Assembly Secretariat recently completed the installation of tablets for lawmakers, enabling digital access to agendas, bills, resolutions and other official documents, thereby reducing paper consumption and improving efficiency. The session is expected to serve as a landmark step in the digitisation of parliamentary proceedings in Pakistan.
