Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi stated on Thursday that the tragedy of Karbala remains an enduring symbol of the struggle between truth and falsehood, inspiring people to stand against oppression and injustice. He issued a message on the occasion of Ashura.
Supreme Sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA)
Afridi highlighted that the supreme sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), along with his companions, represents an unparalleled commitment to upholding Islamic principles and values. He described the events of Karbala as offering profound lessons for humanity, serving as a reminder of the consequences of tyranny and injustice.
The Chief Minister characterized Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) as a beacon of courage, integrity, and steadfastness who refused to compromise on principles in the face of oppression. He added that Muslims can draw inspiration from the message of Karbala by embracing patience, resilience, and unity in confronting contemporary challenges. Adherence to these values, he said, would help foster a more peaceful, just, and stable society.
Call for Peace and Harmony During Muharram
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace during Muharram, Afridi stressed that law and order, as well as religious harmony, must be ensured across the province to facilitate the observance of Ashura in a secure environment. He appealed to the public and religious scholars from all schools of thought to play a constructive role in promoting tolerance, mutual respect, and inter-sect harmony.
The Chief Minister urged full cooperation with authorities in maintaining peace during Muharram. In a related development, the Punjab government rolled out a digital monitoring plan for Muharram, and metro, speedo, and e-buses were announced to remain off the road on Ashura day.
