Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed on Thursday visited Sadar Bazaar and Hussainiya Hall Imambargah in Peshawar to review security arrangements for the 9th Muharram processions. The visit came as police maintained a heightened security presence across the province.
Security Briefing and Deployment
Accompanied by Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mian Muhammad Saeed and Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Farhan, the IGP received a detailed briefing on the security measures implemented for Muharram processions and religious gatherings. Officials informed him that bomb disposal units and sniffer dogs had thoroughly swept procession routes, while police personnel had been deployed at key vantage points and on surrounding buildings to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
IGP's Remarks on Muharram and Police Sacrifices
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Hameed said Muharram conveyed enduring lessons of sacrifice, resilience, and commitment to principle. He paid tribute to the sacrifices rendered by police personnel in protecting lives and property and in confronting security challenges across the province.
Scale of Security Operation
Highlighting the scale of the security operation, the IGP said approximately 50,000 police officers and personnel had been deployed throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during Muharram, including around 11,000 in Peshawar, to ensure the peaceful observance of religious processions and gatherings.
