Governor Mandokhel Directs SSGC to Ensure Uninterrupted Winter Gas Supply
In a decisive move to address the pressing gas crisis, Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhel has issued strict directives for immediate and concrete measures to guarantee an uninterrupted gas supply throughout the severe winter season. The Governor emphasized that the current practice of shutting off gas at 10 pm must be appropriately extended to provide relief to the citizens, particularly in Quetta.
Crackdown on Illegal Activities and Call for Public Cooperation
During a high-level briefing held at the Governor House in Quetta on Wednesday, Governor Mandokhel called for strict legal action against individuals involved in installing illegal gas compressors and their subsequent sale in the market. He stated that by prioritizing these steps, his administration aims to alleviate the suffering of residents and significantly improve their quality of life during the harsh winter months.
The briefing was conducted by General Manager (GM) of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Muhammad Raheel Malik. Also present were Chief Manager Billing Muhammad Imran Azam and Hafiz Muhammad Yousuf. The Governor was apprised of the recent steps taken by the gas company and the various challenges the institution is currently confronting.
Addressing Systemic Issues and Billing Concerns
Governor Mandokhel also urged the public to cooperate with the government's efforts, specifically by ensuring the payment of outstanding gas bills. He made it clear that non-payment of bills negatively impacts the performance of utility institutions and can exacerbate public problems. He further acknowledged a critical systemic flaw, noting that in some areas, reducing or stopping the gas supply also affects consumers who pay their bills regularly and on time.
To resolve these issues comprehensively, the Governor instructed SSGC officials to intensify their efforts in providing gas facilities and to ensure that all public complaints are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
