QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Sunday announced a civil award for Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, an employee of Quetta Civil Hospital, in recognition of his extraordinary bravery and humanity during an acid attack on a lady doctor.
Incident Details
On Saturday, a female doctor, Mahnoor Nasir, was seriously injured at the civil hospital when an employee of the facility allegedly threw acid on her. The doctor suffered severe burn injuries to her face, chest, legs and other parts of her body. The CCTV footage of the incident showed that Tarakai tried to help Dr Nisar as she came running out of a room after the attack by covering her up with what appears to be his jacket.
Chief Minister's Remarks
In a post shared on X, the CM described Abdul Razzaq Tarakai as a 'precious asset to society', noting that individuals who step forward to save lives and help others without regard for personal safety embody the highest values of humanity. Bugti emphasized that Tarakai's timely action set a remarkable example of humanity, professional responsibility, and moral integrity.
'In recognition of his services, the Government of Balochistan will honor him with a Civil Award to further promote the spirit of sacrifice, compassion, and public service in society,' he noted. The chief minister added that brave and dutiful individuals are the pride of the nation, and Tarakai's courage will be acknowledged at the national level.

He reaffirmed the government's commitment to encouraging and supporting those who work selflessly for the protection of lives and the service of humanity. CM Bugti added that such individuals are symbols of hope, resilience, and humanity, serving as role models for the younger generation.
Doctors' Protest
After the attacks, doctors at the hospital staged a protest and demanded action against the culprit.
