Hyderabad police kill suspect, injure another in encounters

Hyderabad police engaged in two separate shootouts on Saturday, resulting in the death of one suspected robber and the injury of another. The operations took place within the jurisdictions of the Bhitai Nagar and Naseem Nagar police stations.

Shootout Near Qasimabad Grid Station

According to police spokesman Inspector Shahid Usman, Bhitai Nagar police acted on a tip-off about five suspected robbers hiding near the Qasimabad Grid Station. When officers arrived at the scene, the suspects allegedly opened fire in an attempt to escape. Police returned fire, hitting one of the individuals.

The injured suspect, identified as Farhan Maqbool from Rahimyar Khan district in Punjab, was apprehended. However, his four accomplices managed to flee. Maqbool later succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Liaquat University Hospital.

Inspector Usman stated that the escaped suspects have been named as Azmat Gujjar, Shahid Jutt, and Imran Tani, along with one unidentified person.

Criminal History of the Deceased Suspect

Police investigations revealed that Farhan Maqbool was a key suspect in major house robberies across Latifabad, Qasimabad, and Bhitai Nagar areas in 2025. His involvement was confirmed through CCTV footage analysis.

He faced serious criminal charges, as detailed below:

  • Booked in a total of 12 First Information Reports (FIRs).
  • Four of these FIRs were registered in Punjab.
  • He was specifically named in four FIRs at Bhitai Nagar, Qasimabad, and B-section police stations in Hyderabad.

Second Encounter at Hyderabad Bypass

In a separate incident, police personnel from the Naseem Nagar checkpost, led by Sub-Inspector Nazar Shoro, confronted suspects near the Hyderabad bypass bridge. This encounter led to the arrest of an injured suspect, Abdullah Chandio. His accomplice, Mujeeb Ghailo, escaped during the crossfire.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Abdullah Chandio is nominated in 9 FIRs for various crimes in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, and Thatta districts. He was admitted to Liaquat University Hospital for surgery on a gunshot wound to his leg.

From both encounters, police recovered two 9mm pistols. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hyderabad, Adeel Hussain Chandio, commended the SHO and his team for their effective action.
