Islamabad Implements Security Measures with Trail Closures and Traffic Management
In response to heightened security protocols for the arrival of foreign delegations, authorities in Islamabad have taken decisive action by closing several popular hiking trails and rolling out a comprehensive traffic management strategy. According to an official notification released by the relevant departments, this move aims to ensure public safety and facilitate smooth movement during this period of increased vigilance.
Hiking Trail Closures Effective Immediately
The Islamabad administration has officially shut down Trail 2, Trail 3, Trail 4, and Trail 5, with the closures taking effect from April 20. These trails will remain inaccessible to the public until further notice, as confirmed by the notification. This precautionary measure is part of a broader security framework designed to safeguard the federal capital during the visit of international delegations.
Comprehensive Traffic Plan Unveiled
Simultaneously, the Islamabad Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic plan to assist commuters navigating the city amidst restricted movement. Several key arterial routes have been temporarily closed to bolster security arrangements. Specifically, the Islamabad Expressway from Korral to Zero Point will remain completely closed, while traffic on Srinagar Highway may face intermittent suspensions based on real-time security needs.
Furthermore, the entire Red Zone area has been declared off-limits to all types of traffic movement, emphasizing the stringent measures in place. To mitigate inconvenience, authorities have designated alternate routes for various sectors:
- Traffic originating from sectors G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 is advised to use Margalla Road and Ninth Avenue.
- Vehicles from Faisal Avenue and Zero Point should be diverted towards Ninth Avenue.
Alternate Routes to Minimize Disruption
In an effort to reduce the impact on daily travelers, several alternative pathways have been provided. For instance, if closures occur between Zero Point and Korral Chowk, commuters may opt for Srinagar Highway, Ninth Avenue, Stadium Road, Murree Road, or Rawal Road as viable detours.
Additionally, in case of disruptions along Park Road or Club Road, the recommended bypass is through Tramri Chowk. Residents of Bhara Kahu are encouraged to utilize Kurang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road for their commuting needs. Those traveling from the Saddar area of Rawalpindi to Islamabad should use Colonel Sher Khan Road, Fakir Aipi Road, and Ninth Avenue.
Restrictions on Heavy Traffic and Long-Distance Travel
Authorities have also imposed a ban on heavy traffic entering Islamabad until further notice, aiming to ease congestion and enhance security. For long-distance travel, vehicles moving between Peshawar and Lahore have been directed to use the motorway via Taxila, Chakri Interchange, and Chak Beli Road to reach Rawat GT Road, ensuring smoother transit during this period.
Public Advisory and Communication Channels
Transporters are strongly urged to avoid traveling to Islamabad during this time to prevent unnecessary delays. Citizens are advised to stay informed through official communication channels, including social media platforms and FM 92.4, for real-time updates on traffic conditions and any further changes to the security arrangements. This proactive approach seeks to maintain order and safety while accommodating the needs of both residents and visitors.
