Lahore police have arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged torture of a domestic maid, officials confirmed on Friday. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Ayesha Bibi, was rescued from a house in the Gulberg area following a tip-off from neighbors who heard her screams.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, Ayesha had been working as a maid for the suspect family for the past six months. She was subjected to physical abuse, including being beaten with iron rods and having her hands tied. The suspects also withheld food and water from her for extended periods.
Station House Officer (SHO) Gulberg, Inspector Aslam Khan, stated that the victim was found locked in a small room with visible injuries on her body. She was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
The police arrested the prime suspect, the homeowner, along with his wife and son. They have been booked under sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offense), 337 (punishment for hurt), and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Inspector Khan said, "We have registered a case against the accused and are investigating the matter further. The victim has recorded her statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before a judicial magistrate."

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many demanding strict punishment for the perpetrators. Human rights activists have called for better protection for domestic workers, who often remain vulnerable to abuse due to lack of legal safeguards.
Lawyer and activist Sarah Zaman commented, "Domestic workers are often treated as property rather than human beings. This case highlights the urgent need for legislation to protect their rights."
The police have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted and that the accused will face the full force of the law.
