KP Governor Emphasizes Urgent Need to Fill Vacant Positions in Power Distribution Companies
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has underscored the critical necessity of promptly filling approximately 14,000 vacant posts within power distribution companies to boost service delivery and operational efficiency. This directive was issued during a detailed meeting with Tahir Jamal, Chief Executive Officer of the Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO), at the Governor House in Peshawar.
Addressing Key Challenges in Electricity Supply
The discussions centered on multiple pressing issues, including electricity provision in merged districts, recovery mechanisms, and consumer facilitation. Governor Kundi highlighted that the significant staff shortage in both PESCO and TESCO is severely hampering departmental performance and the public's access to essential services. He commended TESCO's efforts in implementing federal government policies to combat electricity theft, noting an improvement in recovery rates, which he described as a commendable step toward financial stability for the company.
Governor Kundi stated, "The elimination of power theft is fundamental for the nation's development, and addressing the vacancy crisis is paramount to ensuring a reliable power distribution system." He instructed relevant authorities to take immediate action to recruit personnel, aiming to enhance the overall power infrastructure and provide better services to consumers across the province.
Engagement with Medical Delegation and Development Initiatives
In a separate meeting, Governor Kundi engaged with a delegation from the Peoples Doctors Forum, led by President Dr. Janbaz Afridi, which included prominent members such as Prof Dr. Sharif and Prof Dr. Muhammad Aurangzeb. The delegation outlined their welfare projects, including annual scholarships for 100 students, free medical treatments, and the construction of a school in Buner.
The conversation also revisited the long-pending upgrade of Khyber Medical College to a university, a project announced by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 1989, with calls for accelerated progress. Additionally, plans for establishing a state-of-the-art hospital in Peshawar through a public-private partnership were discussed, utilizing available federal land to offer advanced healthcare locally and reduce patient travel to other provinces.
Governor's Remarks on Investment and Security
Governor Kundi highlighted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's vast investment potential, citing its rich reserves of oil, gas, and minerals. He also paid tribute to the security forces for their exemplary sacrifices in restoring peace to the region. The meeting concluded with the delegation presenting a special shield to the Governor in recognition of his support.
