HANGU: A devastating improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeted police personnel in Hangu district on Monday, leaving three officers seriously injured including a Station House Officer (SHO), security officials confirmed.
The explosive device was strategically planted along a route frequently used by security forces, detonating as the police vehicle passed through the area. The impact of the explosion caused significant damage to the vehicle and left the officers with critical injuries.
Critical Injuries and Emergency Response
Among the wounded, the Station House Officer sustained the most severe injuries, raising concerns about the targeting of senior police officials in the region. All three injured officers were immediately transported to the nearest medical facility where they are currently receiving emergency treatment.
Medical sources at the hospital confirmed that while the officers' conditions remain serious, they are stable and under constant medical supervision. "The quick response of emergency services likely prevented more severe consequences," a medical official stated anonymously.
Security Operations Intensify
Following the attack, security forces have launched extensive search operations in the surrounding areas. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and local police have cordoned off the blast site for forensic analysis and evidence collection.
"This cowardly attack on our brave police officers will not go unanswered," a senior police official declared. "We have initiated a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for this act of terrorism."
Growing Security Concerns in KPK
The incident highlights the escalating security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, particularly in districts bordering conflict zones. Recent months have seen a concerning rise in IED attacks targeting security personnel across the region.
Security analysts note that such attacks represent a shift in tactics by militant groups, focusing on soft targets and using improvised explosive devices to maximize casualties among security forces.
Local residents expressed alarm at the deteriorating security situation, calling for enhanced protection measures for both security personnel and civilians in the affected areas.
