Lahore Traffic Police have intensified their enforcement against vehicles and motorcycles with missing, non-standard, or temporary number plates across the provincial capital. In a special campaign conducted on Wednesday, authorities took action against a total of 2,279 vehicles and motorcycles.
Challans and Fines Issued
According to a spokesperson for the traffic police, challan tickets were issued to 1,137 vehicles over the past two days for operating without proper number plates, displaying non-standard registration plates, or using applied-for plates. Additionally, action was taken against 455 motorcycles and vehicles for showcasing fancy number plates or plates that deviated from the design prescribed by the Excise Department. Furthermore, 687 vehicles and motorcycles were fined for having broken front or rear number plates or for concealing vehicle identification marks.
Criminal Cases and Warnings
Five criminal cases were registered at various police stations across the city against individuals found using fake number plates. During the campaign, more than 7,000 vehicle and motorcycle owners were educated and warned over minor traffic violations.
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, stated that a fine of Rs. 3,000 is imposed for driving a car without a number plate, while motorcyclists without a number plate are liable to a fine of Rs. 1,000. He warned that cases under fraud-related provisions would be registered against those using bogus or illegal green number plates, unauthorized blue lights, and fake registration plates.
Advice to Citizens
The CTO advised citizens to use their new universal registration number instead of the old number when transferring vehicle ownership. Shirazi noted that some motorists tamper with number plates to evade e-challans, while lawbreakers often use fake registration plates to conceal vehicle identity. He clarified that vehicles and motorcycles displaying number plates in accordance with the Excise Department's prescribed design would not be challaned.
