In a decisive crackdown on food adulteration, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intercepted and seized a massive consignment of 300 kilograms of rotten and substandard meat during an early-morning operation in Rawalpindi.
Checkpoint Operation Based on Tip-Off
Acting swiftly on received intelligence, PFA teams established a strategic checkpoint near the Chakri Interchange. Their vigilance paid off when they stopped a suspicious vehicle loaded with a large quantity of meat. Upon inspection, the officials were met with a foul smell and discovered the meat was being transported in highly unhygienic conditions, blatantly violating all safety standards.
Meat Declared Unfit for Human Consumption
A veterinary doctor present at the scene conducted a thorough examination of the seized stock. The professional assessment was clear and alarming: the meat was declared unfit for human consumption and posed a serious danger to public health. The authorities revealed that the contaminated meat was intended for sale in various markets across Rawalpindi city, potentially endangering countless consumers.
Following the declaration, the PFA took immediate action to neutralize the threat. The entire 300-kilogram stock of rotten meat was destroyed on the spot, ensuring it could not enter the food supply chain.
Zero-Tolerance Policy and Public Appeal
The law enforcement agencies supported the operation by taking the involved vehicle into custody. A formal case has been registered against the culprits at the concerned police station, initiating legal proceedings.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Food Authority reiterated the organization's steadfast commitment to food safety. The spokesperson emphasized that the PFA is enforcing a strict zero-tolerance policy against unsafe food practices. Operations targeting the sale and transport of substandard and hazardous meat are ongoing across Punjab province without any discrimination.
The authority also made a strong appeal to citizens, urging them to become active partners in safeguarding community health. The public is encouraged to report any complaints or information regarding suspicious food quality or illegal activities by calling the PFA helpline at 1223.
