Punjab Government Intensifies Anti-Drug Campaign and Strengthens Sri Lanka Ties
Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari has declared that the provincial government is placing special emphasis on eradicating the drug menace and bolstering rehabilitation initiatives for addicts. She made these remarks during a significant meeting with the Honorary Consul General of Sri Lanka, Yaseen Joyia, held in Lahore on Sunday. The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation between Punjab and Sri Lanka across multiple sectors, alongside fostering stronger people-to-people connections.
Firm Stance Against Drug Trafficking
Speaking at the event, Azma Bokhari underscored the Punjab government's unwavering and uncompromising position against drug traffickers. She highlighted that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has prioritized creating a drug-free province, asserting that there is no longer any safe haven for individuals involved in the illicit drug trade. Bokhari emphasized that safeguarding the younger generation from the detrimental effects of narcotics is a core mission of the administration.
Comprehensive Awareness and Rehabilitation Efforts
To achieve this goal, the government has launched extensive awareness campaigns in educational institutions aimed at preventing drug abuse. Bokhari also praised the pivotal role of the Drug Advisory Training Hub in combating narcotics, affirming that the Punjab government will continue to collaborate closely with this institution to eliminate drugs and enhance public awareness. The meeting was attended by key officials, including Secretary Information Punjab Tahir Raza Hamdani, as well as social figures Zulfiqar Hussain and Syed Mohsin, underscoring the broad-based support for these initiatives.
Enhancing Bilateral Relations with Sri Lanka
Beyond the anti-drug focus, the meeting facilitated detailed talks on boosting cooperation between Punjab and Sri Lanka in various fields, such as culture, trade, and education. Both sides expressed a mutual interest in deepening ties and exploring new avenues for collaboration, which could lead to joint programs and exchanges benefiting both regions. This engagement reflects the government's proactive approach to international partnerships while addressing critical domestic issues like drug addiction.
