Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and fog lashed Murree on Thursday, causing widespread flooding and disruption. Torrential downpour led to severe flooding in rivers and canals, turning roads into streams and bringing traffic to a halt. Trees and electric poles along GT Road and View Fourth Road were uprooted by strong winds, cutting power supply to most areas.
Rescue and Response
Rescue 1122 and administrative agencies carried out rescue operations, removing fallen trees and poles from roads to restore traffic flow. Visibility was severely reduced due to heavy fog. The district administration has issued instructions to tourists and citizens to stay away from rivers and canals.
Weather Impact and Tourist Activity
The pre-monsoon rains, which began in early July, initially made the weather pleasant, attracting tourists over the weekend to enjoy summer vacations. The heavy rains ended a three-day spell of intense heat, with a significant drop in temperature. Tourists at Mall Road, Kashmir Point, Patriata, Ayubiya, Nathia Gali, and other spots were seen enjoying the rain and cool weather.
