The Lahore Region Cricket Association (LRCA) has strongly dismissed recent allegations made by a small group of club organizers, labeling the criticism as misleading and politically motivated. In a statement, an LRCA spokesperson emphasized that the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to increase the number of cricket zones has been widely endorsed by the cricket community, with over 150 active clubs in Lahore supporting the initiative.
Expanded Opportunities for Young Cricketers
The spokesperson described the move as a major step toward creating more opportunities for young cricketers, strengthening club cricket, and enhancing talent identification. According to the LRCA, the revised structure has intensified competition by allowing six teams from each zone to compete in the Challenge Cup before players are selected for district and regional teams strictly on merit and performance. This merit-based system is also being implemented across U-15, U-17, U-19, and T20 competitions, ensuring broader participation and fair chances for emerging talent.
Proven Track Record
The LRCA pointed to Lahore Region’s achievements over the past three years as evidence of the success of its policies. During this period, Lahore won two National U-15 titles, one National U-17 Championship, one National U-19 Championship, and a National T20 title, while also delivering strong performances in major domestic tournaments. The association further highlighted its contribution to Pakistan cricket by developing players who have represented the national team, Pakistan Shaheens, and the ICC U-19 World Cup.
Infrastructure and Development Initiatives
The spokesperson credited LRCA President Khawaja Nadeem Ahmed for key infrastructure projects, including efforts that led to cricket grounds being returned to clubs and the restoration of the historic Minto Park Cricket Stadium. The establishment of a modern high-performance cricket academy, supported by sponsors, was described as another milestone, offering professional training and scholarship programs to talented and underprivileged players.

Rejecting claims regarding club allocations and zonal restructuring, the LRCA maintained that all decisions were made after careful consideration of geographical locations and cricketing requirements.
