Pakistan’s difficult campaign in the FIH Pro League 2026 continued on Wednesday as England fought back from a goal down to secure a 2-1 victory at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, extending the Green Shirts’ losing streak to 14 consecutive matches.
First half: Pakistan takes surprise lead
The opening quarter ended scoreless despite several opportunities for both sides. England dominated possession and earned four penalty corners, while Pakistan won two, but neither team could find a breakthrough. Pakistan struck first in the 27th minute when Rana Waheed Ashraf converted a well-worked move to hand his side a surprise lead. The visitors defended resolutely for the remainder of the first half, with goalkeeper Ali Raza producing a series of impressive saves to frustrate the hosts.
Second half: England fights back
England finally found their reward in the third quarter when experienced forward Phil Roper levelled the scores in the 40th minute. The momentum shifted decisively in England’s favour, and Samuel Hooper completed the comeback six minutes into the final quarter, scoring what proved to be the match-winning goal. Ali Raza remained one of Pakistan’s standout performers, preventing England from adding to their tally despite relentless pressure and a remarkable 18 penalty corners for the hosts.
Standings and next match
The defeat leaves Pakistan rooted to the bottom of the Pro League standings, having scored 21 goals while carrying a goal difference of minus-44. Pakistan will now face India on Friday.
