KP CM Launches Rs1.257 Billion Hazar Khwani Overpass

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, laid the foundation stone of a six-lane overpass at the Hazar Khwani Interchange on Peshawar Ring Road. The project, part of the Peshawar Revitalization Plan, is estimated to cost Rs1.257 billion.

Traffic Improvement and Commendations

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Minister commended all departments, officers, and officials involved in implementing the Peshawar Revitalization Plan. He stated that the Hazar Khwani Flyover would not only benefit local residents but also significantly improve traffic flow across Peshawar.

Recognition of Public Sacrifices

Afridi noted that the people of Peshawar have made immense sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and have historically shown exemplary hospitality by welcoming and supporting displaced populations from merged districts and Malakand Division. He said the provincial government remains grateful for these contributions, and the Peshawar Revitalization Plan acknowledges the resilience and sacrifices of Peshawar's citizens.

Comprehensive Development Portfolio

The Chief Minister said the Plan includes a broad range of development initiatives: flyovers, underpasses, link roads, canal patrol roads, modern urban infrastructure, street lighting, clean drinking water, and other essential municipal services. He added that utility and communication cables would gradually be shifted underground to transform Peshawar into a modern, well-planned urban centre.

Commitment to Public Welfare

Afridi reiterated the provincial government's commitment to advancing the public welfare agenda envisioned by Imran Khan. He stated that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have trusted Imran Khan and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for a third consecutive term, reflecting a strong bond between party leadership and the electorate.

Response to Criticism

Referring to criticism, Afridi said certain elements have tried to malign the PTI government through negative propaganda, but such efforts have been rejected by the public. He noted that allegations of corruption were levelled against the provincial government, and he publicly invited anyone with credible evidence to present it for impartial action. To date, no substantiated evidence has been produced. He contrasted this with the Rs5.3 trillion in corruption identified by the IMF regarding the federal government, questioning the lack of public debate on that issue.

Concerns Over Institutions

The Chief Minister expressed concern over the weakening of the judiciary, media independence, and state institutions. He alleged that journalists and political workers raising issues of public interest and accountability are being targeted. He also criticized the treatment of PTI leadership and workers in Punjab, stating that political activists face retaliatory measures and restrictions.

Political Commitment

Despite political challenges, Afridi reaffirmed his commitment to his principles, declaring that no force could compel him to retreat from his convictions. He said Imran Khan would remain his leader and PTI his political platform for his entire political career.

Budget and Future Outlook

The Chief Minister said the provincial budget for fiscal year 2026-27 was formulated according to public needs, development priorities, and the province's long-term interests. He expressed confidence that the benefits would reach all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to public service, development, peace, and prosperity, expressing confidence that fiscal year 2026-27 would mark significant progress.
