Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan chaired a high-level meeting on Thursday to review the Sanam Dam project in Lower Dir. The meeting was held in the committee room of the Irrigation Department.
Meeting Attendees
The session was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister on Industries and Commerce Humayun Khan, senior officials from the Irrigation Department, representatives of the Planning and Development Department, and other concerned officers.
Project Briefing
The minister received a detailed briefing on the current status of the Sanam Dam project, covering its technical aspects, administrative progress, and future implementation stages. Participants were informed that the project has been included in the agenda for approval by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP). Construction work will formally commence once the required approval is granted.
Minister's Directives
Emphasizing the importance of the project, Riaz Khan directed the concerned authorities to expedite all technical and administrative processes to ensure timely initiation of construction activities. He stated that timely completion of public welfare and development projects remains a top priority of the current KP government, and any negligence or unnecessary delay would not be tolerated.
Agricultural and Economic Benefits
The irrigation minister said the dam will play a significant role in promoting agricultural development, meeting irrigation requirements, and strengthening the local economy in Lower Dir and adjoining areas. Upon completion, the dam will contribute to increased agricultural productivity, improved water storage capacity, and more efficient utilization of water resources, ultimately benefiting the local population.
Water Resource Management
Riaz Khan further said the KP government is taking practical measures for conservation, effective management, and sustainable utilization of water resources. Strengthening water-related infrastructure and implementing new water resource projects are key components of the provincial government's development agenda.
Timely Completion
He issued directives to relevant authorities to pay special attention to all stages of the Sanam Dam project and accelerate necessary procedures for commencement of construction work, ensuring the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe and according to prescribed standards.
