Deputy Commissioner Muzaffargarh, Rauf Ahmed, has announced that the district will soon be declared a plastic-free city. In a press conference held on Wednesday, he stated that a comprehensive plan has been finalized to eliminate the use of plastic bags and other single-use plastic items across the city.
Ban on Plastic Bags
Rauf Ahmed said that the use of plastic bags would be completely banned from next week. He added that strict action would be taken against shopkeepers and citizens found violating the ban. The district administration has already started awareness campaigns to educate people about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment and health.
Enforcement Measures
The deputy commissioner said that teams have been formed to enforce the ban. These teams will conduct raids and impose fines on violators. He urged the public to cooperate with the administration and switch to eco-friendly alternatives like cloth bags and paper bags.
Rauf Ahmed also mentioned that the local government is working to provide affordable alternatives to plastic bags. He said that the step is part of a larger initiative to make Muzaffargarh a model city in terms of cleanliness and environmental protection.
The announcement has been welcomed by environmentalists and civil society members, who have long demanded a ban on plastic in the city. They hope that the move will reduce pollution and improve the quality of life for residents.
The district administration plans to expand the ban to other areas in the coming months, with the goal of making the entire district plastic-free by the end of the year.
