NexGen Auto, Chery Launch iCar NEVs in Pakistan

NexGen Auto, a subsidiary of the Nishat Group, has partnered with Chinese automaker Chery to launch iCar-branded new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Pakistan. The collaboration aims to introduce a range of electric and hybrid vehicles tailored to the local market.

Strategic Partnership for EV Adoption

The agreement was signed in Lahore, with senior executives from both companies present. NexGen Auto will serve as the official distributor and assembler of iCar vehicles in Pakistan. The partnership is expected to accelerate the adoption of eco-friendly transportation in the country.

Product Lineup and Local Assembly

The initial lineup includes the iCar 03, a compact electric SUV, and the iCar 05, a larger family SUV. Both models will be assembled at NexGen Auto's facility in Faisalabad, with a phased plan to increase localization. The company aims to achieve 50% local content within three years.

Charging Infrastructure and Support

To support the EV ecosystem, NexGen Auto will install fast-charging stations along major highways and in urban centers. The company will also offer comprehensive after-sales service and battery warranty programs to build consumer confidence.

Government Support and Market Potential

The launch aligns with Pakistan's National Electric Vehicle Policy, which offers incentives for EV manufacturing and adoption. Industry analysts project that NEVs could capture 30% of the new car market by 2030. The Nishat Group's entry into the EV segment is seen as a significant boost to the sector.

Economic and Environmental Impact

Local assembly of iCar vehicles is expected to create thousands of jobs and reduce Pakistan's fuel import bill. The shift to NEVs will also contribute to lower carbon emissions, supporting global climate goals.

Production of the iCar 03 is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with deliveries expected by early 2027. NexGen Auto plans to expand the lineup with additional models in subsequent years.
