ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has reported gross earnings of Rs63.56 billion during the first nine months of fiscal year 2025-26 (July-March), as compared to Rs65.2 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, according to the Economic Survey of Pakistan 2025-26. The survey was unveiled by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
Passenger and Freight Performance
The Economic Survey highlighted that Pakistan Railways remains a vital component of the country's transport network. During the July-March period, the railway system carried 24.16 million passengers, playing a significant role in facilitating travel and supporting economic activities across the nation. Freight movement also contributed to the overall earnings, with the railway continuing to be a key mode of transportation for goods.
Infrastructure and Network
Pakistan Railways operates a network of 444 locomotives across 7,791 kilometers of railway track. This extensive infrastructure makes it a cornerstone of the national transport framework, connecting various regions and enabling both passenger and freight services.
The slight decline in earnings compared to the previous year may be attributed to various factors, including operational challenges and competition from other transport modes. However, the railway remains an essential service for millions of passengers and businesses alike.
