The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), acting on the directives of its Director General, conducted a major crackdown across Rawalpindi targeting the production and sale of substandard and unsafe food. Operations were carried out at 14 locations, resulting in heavy fines and the sealing of multiple production units.
Scale of Enforcement Actions
According to a PFA spokesperson, the operations were part of an ongoing special campaign aimed at dismantling the adulteration mafia and holding businesses accountable for violating food safety and hygiene standards. During the crackdown, fines totaling Rs1.15 million were imposed for violations of PFA laws, poor sanitation conditions, and the preparation of substandard food products.
The spokesperson further reported that food items worth approximately Rs20 million were destroyed on the spot. Confiscated products included 10,950 litres of counterfeit soft drinks, 1,300 litres of adulterated milk, 30,000 sachets of gutka, 250 kilograms of unhygienic meat, and 425 kilograms of banned Chinese salt.
Sealing of Production Units and Legal Action
PFA teams sealed seven production units found to be involved in food safety violations and the preparation of unhealthy food products. In addition, legal proceedings were initiated against those endangering public health, with four First Information Reports (FIRs) registered.
The spokesperson emphasized that indiscriminate action against the adulteration mafia would continue, warning that no leniency would be shown towards those compromising public health.
