The Punjab Transport Department has introduced dedicated buses for women on Lahore's Metro Bus Service to make public transport safer and more comfortable for female passengers. According to the Transport and Mass Transit Department, five Speedo buses have been temporarily added to the Metro Bus route and reserved exclusively for women.
Minister Announces Initiative to Curb Harassment
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said the initiative aims to reduce incidents of harassment during rush hours and provide women with a more secure travel environment. He said the Speedo buses were deployed on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Plans for Permanent Replacement
The minister added that the government plans to purchase new Metro buses in the future, which will permanently replace the temporarily assigned Speedo buses for women. He said ensuring safe and reliable transport for women remains one of the Punjab chief minister's key priorities, adding that more steps will be taken to further enhance passenger safety.
