The Punjab government has announced an ambitious plan to establish open playfields and outdoor gyms in 500 parks across the province, aiming to promote grassroots sports and healthy lifestyles. The initiative was shared by Fazlur Rehman while chairing a meeting of the Departmental Development Sub-Committee (DDSC) at Punjab Stadium on Monday, where nine sports and youth development schemes were approved.
Key Initiatives for Athlete Welfare
As part of athlete welfare, the government will also introduce the CM Khelta Punjab Health Insurance Card, ensuring access to quality healthcare facilities for thousands of sportsmen and women. This card is expected to provide comprehensive health coverage, reducing financial burdens on athletes.
Hockey Revival and E-Sports Development
Wani vows hockey revival aligned with PM’s vision. The meeting was attended by Tariq Qureshi and Sajid Latif, along with officials from the Planning & Development and Finance departments. The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) presented a briefing on the development of e-sports, including plans to establish a dedicated E-Sports Lab.
Highlighting future initiatives, the secretary said the CM Youth Engagement Programme will soon be launched, alongside efforts to promote e-sports and prepare participation in the E-Sports World Cup 2026. He further announced the construction of sports complexes and stadiums in South Punjab, as well as the rollout of the Chief Minister’s Free Sports Kits Programme to encourage youth participation.
