ISLAMABAD - Adviser to the Prime Minister, Rana Sanaullah, on Thursday emphasized the urgent need for constructing water reservoirs across Pakistan to address future water-related challenges and strengthen the country’s agricultural sector.
Water Reservoirs for Agriculture and Flood Management
Speaking to a private television channel, Rana Sanaullah said that building dams and reservoirs would help irrigate vast tracts of land, boost agricultural productivity, and facilitate the storage of water during flood seasons.
Concerns Over Indian Water Projects
Referring to regional water issues, he noted that India is constructing water reservoirs on the Chenab River and warned that the neighboring country could potentially reduce water flows towards Pakistan. However, he asserted that Pakistan has legal avenues and international forums available to safeguard its water rights if any attempt is made to stop flow of water.
Pakistan's Mediating Role in US-Iran Relations
Commenting on relations between the United States and Iran, Rana Sanaullah credited Pakistan’s current leadership for playing a mediatory role and said that the efforts of Pakistan’s leadership would be remembered positively in history.
Telemetry System for Water Distribution
Addressing the issue of water distribution within the country, he said the implementation of a telemetry system would help ensure transparent and equitable distribution of water resources.
AJK Elections to be Free and Fair
On the upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), he expressed confidence that the electoral process would be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
