SUKKUR: The Safe City Project has been officially launched in Sukkur district, with over 50 advanced CCTV cameras already installed in Rohri and an additional 160 modern cameras planned for Sukkur city in the next phase. Chairman District Council Sukkur Syed Kamil Haider Shah visited the monitoring room at the SSP Office to review the system.
Joint Press Conference Highlights
Addressing a joint press conference alongside SSP Azhar Mughal and Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shahzad, Shah confirmed that the project is underway to strengthen surveillance across the district. He stated that the central 9th Muharram procession will be monitored through high-resolution cameras, and a modern surveillance system has been activated at all city entry and exit points.
Shah added that the Sukkur project would be linked to the Karachi Safe City network in the future and extended to Pano Aqil, Saleh Pat, and Bagarji. This integration aims to create a unified security framework across Sindh.
Advanced Technology in Use
SSP Azhar Mughal detailed the capabilities of the new cameras, which are equipped with vehicle number-plate recognition and facial identification technology. "Effective surveillance arrangements have been made from Rohri up to Lansdowne Bridge. The Safe City Project will play a vital role in crime prevention and citizen safety," he said.
The project represents a significant investment in public safety, with the first phase focusing on Rohri and Sukkur city. The cameras are expected to deter criminal activity and aid law enforcement in investigations.
Future Expansion Plans
The Safe City Project is not limited to Sukkur; plans are in place to expand coverage to other areas, including Pano Aqil, Saleh Pat, and Bagarji. The eventual link to Karachi's Safe City network will allow for centralized monitoring and data sharing, enhancing the overall effectiveness of surveillance in the region.
Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shahzad emphasized the collaborative effort between district authorities and police to ensure the project's success. The monitoring room at the SSP Office will serve as the command center for real-time surveillance and incident response.
