Turkish Summer Camp to Expand Across Pakistan

Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Irfan Neziroglu, announced plans to expand the Turkish Summer Camp and similar educational initiatives to Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) regional campuses across the country. The announcement came during the closing ceremony of a two-week Turkish Summer Camp jointly organized by AIOU’s Department of International Collaboration and Exchange and the Yunus Emre Institute Pakistan.

Bilateral Relations as a Time-Tested Bond

Addressing students and faculty, Dr Neziroglu described Pakistan-Türkiye relations as a time-tested brotherly bond anchored in shared historical legacy, cultural affinity, religious harmony and mutual trust. He noted both countries are steadily expanding cooperation in education, cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges to further strengthen societal ties.

The ambassador emphasized that Türkiye offers a wide range of higher education opportunities and scholarship programmes for Pakistani students. He stated that acquiring proficiency in the Turkish language and understanding Türkiye’s literature, cultural traditions and social fabric would enable students to fully benefit from these academic opportunities and strengthen educational linkages.

Role of Yunus Emre Institute

Dr Neziroglu highlighted that the Yunus Emre Institute has been playing a significant role in promoting Turkish language learning and cultural awareness in Pakistan through regular language courses, academic initiatives and cultural activities hosted at AIOU. These programmes help Pakistani students develop a closer understanding of Türkiye’s rich heritage while fostering stronger people-to-people connections.

Expansion to Regional Campuses

In a major announcement, the ambassador revealed plans to expand the Turkish Summer Camp and similar initiatives to AIOU’s regional campuses nationwide. The expansion would allow students from all four provinces to participate and benefit from enhanced academic and cultural engagement with Türkiye.

AIOU Leadership Praised

The envoy praised AIOU leadership for actively promoting educational collaboration. He expressed gratitude to Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Nasir Mahmood for creating new avenues of cooperation and strengthening institutional partnerships that contribute to the broader Pakistan–Türkiye relationship.

Prof. Dr Nasir Mahmood congratulated participants on successfully completing the summer camp and encouraged them to continue learning Turkish to broaden academic horizons and improve professional opportunities. He said language and cultural understanding serve as powerful tools for strengthening international cooperation and building lasting friendships.

The vice chancellor urged students to become ambassadors of goodwill and friendship, stressing that the younger generation would play a crucial role in carrying forward the long-standing brotherly relationship. He noted that educational and cultural exchange programmes provide invaluable international exposure, enhance cross-cultural understanding and open new pathways for academic and career development.

Ceremony Highlights

Prof. Mahmood lauded the enthusiasm shown by participants and led the audience in chants celebrating Pakistan–Türkiye friendship, underscoring the strong emotional and historical connections shared by the two nations.

Earlier, Director of International Collaboration and Exchange Dr Zahid Majeed informed the audience that 30 students successfully completed intensive training in Turkish language and culture during the two-week programme. He also paid tribute to former Yunus Emre Institute Pakistan Director Prof. Dr Khalil Touqar for his contributions to advancing educational and cultural relations.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates among participants, marking the successful completion of the summer camp and reaffirming the commitment of both countries to further expanding educational, cultural and academic cooperation in the years ahead.
