A woman was arrested in Jhang after allegedly jumping into the Jhelum River with her three young daughters in an apparent suicide attempt. The children were swept away by strong currents, and their bodies had not been recovered by nightfall.
Incident Details
According to police, Tahira Yasmeen, a resident of Mouza Chhata on the outskirts of Jhang, jumped into the river along with her daughters after a domestic dispute. Local residents rescued the woman, but the children were carried away by the fast-flowing water.
The missing girls were identified as 10-year-old Sanam, seven-year-old Sadaf, and three-year-old Maryam. Police said Tahira Yasmeen had been married to Amir Khan for the past 12 years.
Motive and Background
Initial reports suggest that family and financial issues had led to frequent disputes between the couple. According to the complaint lodged with police, an argument reportedly occurred after the woman asked her husband for travel expenses to visit her parents' home.
Search Operation
Rescue 1122 teams launched a search operation immediately after the incident. However, the bodies of the children could not be recovered by nightfall. The operation was suspended due to darkness and was scheduled to resume the following morning.
