Easypaisa, Pakistan's leading digital bank, has partnered with the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to digitize consumer payment touchpoints at Islamabad International Airport. This initiative marks a significant step toward creating a cashless, future-ready travel ecosystem.
Launch Ceremony and Key Attendees
A ceremony was held at Islamabad International Airport, where Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed, Director General of the Pakistan Airports Authority, served as chief guest. The event was also attended by Easypaisa's leadership, including Farhan Hassan, Chief Digital Officer, and Shahzad Khan, Chief Business Officer, along with dignitaries and stakeholders from the PAA and airport management.
QR Code Deployment Across Touchpoints
As part of the digitization drive, Easypaisa has deployed QR codes across major consumer touchpoints at the airport. This enables millions of annual visitors to make seamless QR and digital wallet-based payments, reducing reliance on cash and enhancing transaction convenience.
Commitment to Financial Inclusion
Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed highlighted the importance of private sector involvement in digitizing the economy. He stated, “It is encouraging to see the role private sector entities are playing in digitizing the economy and enabling a cashless ecosystem in line with the national agenda. Digitizing Islamabad International Airport, the gateway to the nation’s capital, will go a long way in advancing financial inclusion and enabling a digital-first ecosystem. Today is not just a launching of a digital payment solution, but a gateway to Pakistan’s digital future.”
Shahzad Khan, Chief Business Officer at Easypaisa, emphasized the partnership's strength. He said, “QR enablement across key consumer touchpoints is a decisive step toward accelerating the Prime Minister’s cashless economy agenda, aligned with the State Bank of Pakistan’s vision for financial inclusion. At Easypaisa, we are committed to delivering seamless, secure, and always-on financial services that empower every Pakistani, even when they’re traveling.”
Alignment with National Initiatives
Easypaisa continues to work closely with the government of Pakistan and the SBP under the Cashless Pakistan initiative. The company focuses on expanding QR-based payments by simplifying onboarding, improving awareness, and strengthening merchant value propositions. With over 60 million registered users, Easypaisa is the country’s first digital bank to commence commercial operations, aligning with the SBP’s vision for inclusive economic growth. The company aims to cater to both existing users and the millions who remain unbanked or underbanked.
