Government Announces New Fuel Prices

The federal government has once again raised the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs26.77 per litre each, effective from Saturday. The new rates will remain in place for one week starting April 25, 2026.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has increased from Rs366.58 to Rs393.35 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) has risen from Rs353.42 to Rs380.19 per litre. Petrol is predominantly used in private transport, small vehicles, three-wheelers, and motorcycles, whereas diesel fuels the heavy transport sector.

Recent Price History

This increase follows a series of adjustments over the past two months. On March 6, the government announced a historic hike of Rs55 per litre, pushing petrol to Rs321.17 and diesel to Rs335.86. Then, on April 2, prices skyrocketed by Rs137.23 for petrol and Rs184.49 for diesel, reaching Rs458.50 and Rs520.35 respectively. However, a day later, the government slashed the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs80, bringing it down to Rs378.

On April 10, a decline in global crude oil prices allowed the government to reduce diesel by Rs134.81 and petrol by Rs11.83, lowering diesel to Rs385.54 and petrol to Rs366.58. Last week, diesel was cut by Rs32.12 to Rs353.43, while petrol remained unchanged.

Impact on Consumers

The frequent fluctuations in fuel prices continue to burden consumers, with transport costs expected to rise. The government has cited global market trends and fiscal adjustments as key factors behind the revisions.
