Pakistan Exports First Consignment to Kyrgyzstan via Land

Pakistan has dispatched its first export consignment from the Karachi Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) to Kyrgyzstan via a land route, the government announced on Thursday. This move is part of Islamabad's broader strategy to expand trade links with Central Asia and diversify export markets.

Details of the Shipment

The shipment, sent on Wednesday, includes 2,113 packages valued at $62,461.60. The goods comprise herbal oils, herbal tea, henna, creams, and soaps, reflecting the growing diversity of Pakistan's value-added exports.

Strategic Importance

Pakistan is positioning itself as a trade and transit hub for landlocked Central Asian states. The consignment was sent via a land corridor, though the exact route was not specified. Pakistan has been seeking alternatives to Afghanistan due to recent tensions, including skirmishes since last October.

Earlier this month, Pakistan operationalized a new trade route through the Khunjerab Pass and Sost dry port, linking Central Asia to southern ports via China. The first shipment from Kyrgyzstan was received via this route. Additionally, Pakistan has activated a transit trade corridor through Iran, including Gwadar and the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing.

Broader Economic Goals

The government views these initiatives as part of a strategy to boost exports and integrate Pakistan more deeply into regional supply chains. The EPZA statement emphasized Pakistan's commitment to exploring new markets in Central Asia.
