Pakistan, Poland to Boost Economic Ties via Joint Ventures

In a significant move to bolster economic cooperation, senior officials from Pakistan and Poland have emphasized the need to work together to unlock vast untapped potential. The consensus emerged during a high-level meeting between the Polish Embassy's Economic Secretary and the leadership of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI).

Polish Firms Eager for Pakistani Partnerships

Pawel Mokrzycki, the Economic Secretary of the Polish Embassy, highlighted the longstanding warm relations between the two nations. He stated that Polish companies operating in key sectors are actively seeking joint venture opportunities with Pakistani businesses. These sectors include:

  • Oil & Gas
  • Green Technologies & Renewable Energy
  • Wastewater Treatment
  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Textiles
  • Agricultural Machinery

Mokrzycki stressed the importance of establishing sector-specific working groups and increasing the frequency of two-way business delegation visits. This, he argued, is crucial for building awareness and capitalizing on emerging opportunities. He confirmed that the Polish Embassy is keen to connect ICCI with leading Polish Chambers of Commerce to strengthen institutional links and facilitate direct B2B contacts.

Pakistani Side Highlights Key Opportunities

Sardar Tahir Mehmood, the President of ICCI, acknowledged Poland's advanced capabilities in engineering, mining equipment, renewable energy, and agricultural technologies. He pointed out that the existing Preferential Trade Arrangement (PTA) between Pakistan and Poland has already aided Pakistan's export growth by providing better access to European Union markets.

Mehmood identified Pakistan's large consumer market and rapidly developing industrial base as a tremendous opportunity for Polish investors. He listed several promising sectors for future joint collaborations:

  • IT and Technology
  • Renewable Energy
  • Agro-industry & Food Processing
  • Textiles
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Sports Goods & Surgical Instruments

The ICCI President assured that his organization would soon share detailed sector-specific profiles and product lists with the Polish Embassy to connect relevant stakeholders from both countries.

Focus on Infrastructure and Minerals

Tahir Ayub, ICCI Senior Vice President, drew attention to Pakistan's strong potential in fruit exports. He sought Polish support and expertise to upgrade cold-storage and logistics infrastructure in Islamabad to meet international standards.

During the meeting, Secretary General Ghulam Murtaza highlighted Pakistan's rich reserves of minerals, metals, and gemstones. He emphasized the need for advanced Polish mining and processing machinery to enhance local value addition in this critical sector.

Other ICCI officials, including Executive Member Ms. Fatima Azim and Vice President Irfan Chaudhry, reinforced the chamber's commitment. They advocated for more frequent business exchanges and offered to organize B2B matchmaking sessions, trade exhibitions, and sector-specific interactions to bring Pakistani and Polish businesses closer together.
